TroubleshootingThis section is designed to answer some of the most common problems encountered by SkyDemon users. I want to log out on my PC but I receive an error message saying access to *licence.skdl file is deniedIf you see an error message when you try and log out of SkyDemon Plan on your PC it could mean that your licence file has been set to 'Read Only'. Open up your Documents folder and locate your SkyDemon folder, inside which you should see a *licence.skdl file. Right-click on the file and select Properties. You'll see that Read Only has been ticked. Untick it, then click Apply and OK. When you return to SkyDemon Plan to log out you should be able to do so without any further problems. Why can't I see NOTAMs, TAF or METAR?SkyDemon relies on an internet connection for certain features such as NOTAM and weather briefing, AIP and AFE airfield plates and flightplan submission. If you cannot access these features it may be the case that you do not currently have a stable internet connection or you are working in Offline Mode. Tap Setup then Communication Options on your iPad, or click the Route button on the toolbar in SkyDemon Plan on your PC to ensure that Offline Mode is not ticked. If you appear to be online but you still can't get NOTAMs etc you may need to simply switch off your iPad or wireless router for a few seconds in order to refresh the connection. I've filled in my flightplan form. Why can't I submit it?Before filing a flightplan through SkyDemon you will need flightplan credits. These can be added to your account from the customer area of our website. Just remember you can only purchase flightplan credits if you have a SkyDemon subscription; evaluation users cannot access this feature. When it comes to filing a flightplan through SkyDemon a couple of small changes have been made to ensure that the flightplans we generate remain accurate and ICAO compliant. One of the changes that has come into effect relates to your aircraft equipment specifications. If you have chosen 'Other equipment' (designated by a 'Z' in the equipment field) this equipment now has to be actively specified in the 'Other' box (field 18) preceded by COM/EXAMPLE. In fact, any field where 'Z' has been entered to indicated 'other' requires that this information be specified in order to be able to proceed. You can save this information in the Aircraft Editor window before opening up your flightplan, and the details are saved so they don't have to be entered each time. I have an iPad 1 and after prolonged usage SkyDemon sometimes exits without warningSkyDemon is the most sophisticated planning and navigation software available for iPad, and as such it uses a lot of memory, especially with a lot of charts loaded. The iPad 1 had very little memory available to user applications and if it all gets used up, the running app will exit and need to be restarted. This can be a pain, and there are two things you can do to help prevent it from happening. Firstly, before you go flying, close other apps that are running: double-tap the main iPad home button (not the power button) to bring up a list of all the apps currently running at the bottom of the screen. Press and hold on any one of these icons until they all start to jiggle, then tap the red minus symbol in the corner of each app to close it down. When they're all closed, that's a good time to start SkyDemon. Once you're in SkyDemon, go in to the Charts section and make sure that only the charts you actually need are loaded. I have an iPad with GPS. Why can't I locate any satellites in Go Flying Mode?If you cannot seem to get a fix whilst in Go Flying Mode on your iPad you may need to check your GPS settings. Exit the SkyDemon app and go to Settings on your iPad. Tap on Privacy, then Location Services, and ensure that SkyDemon is toggled 'On' in the window to the right of the screen. Why can I see some airfields but not others?SkyDemon does not display some of the smaller airfields at a higher zoom level so you may need to zoom in a little to see more detail. If you've zoomed in and still can't see an airfield that you expect to your minimum runway length may be set too high. On the PC this can be adjusted in the Mapping menu by clicking Waypoints then Aerodromes. Clear the minimum runway length field to show airfields with shorter runways, or runways of unknown length. On the iPad tap Map Layers, scroll down to Airfields and adjust the minimum runway length to 'Not Set'. I'm trying to log into SkyDemon Web but it says I need to install SilverlightThe Microsoft Silverlight plug-in is a necessary requirement for SkyDemon Web users. When installing Silverlight for the first time it is important to ensure that you don't just download the installation package without actually running the installer to complete the download. Check your PC downloads folder to run the installer file and complete the download process. Silverlight is not compatible with every browser and operating system, so if you appear to be having problems with the plug-in you may simply need to switch to a different browser. Check the Microsoft Silverlight website if you want to know more about system requirements, compatibilty, installation and removal instructions. How do I update the software on my SkyDemon Mobile MD?From time to time we release a software update, which means that after upgrading SkyDemon Plan on your PC you will also need to update the software on the Mobile MD. To do this, first connect the unit to your PC with the USB cable provided, then open the main menu on your Mobile MD and select System then Exit. This will take you to shell menu of the device. Next click Sync on the toolbar in SkyDemon Plan on your PC, and once the sync is complete simply turn your device off and on again to finish the upgrade process. |
