Timers

SkyDemon allows you to define timers on your iPad or Mobile MD device to remind you to perform certain tasks periodically. These can be very useful for repetitive tasks like remembering to change fuel tanks. To access the Timers screen, open the Flight menu and select Timers. On the iPad tap the main menu and choose Navigation Options from the settings menu.

To create a new timer, press the Add button. A timer has a piece of text or a name which is displayed when the timed interval is reached. This might be something like "Perform FREDA Check". The interval sets how many minutes elapse between the timer being triggered. Timers are only triggered when in flight, so the first time the timer is triggered will be the interval number of minutes after takeoff. On the iPad the duration time governs the interval number of minutes between timer alerts.

A timer can be set to appear for a few seconds, in the same way as a position report, or to remain onscreen until manually dismissed, in the same way as an airspace warning. On the iPad choose 'transitive' if you only want your timer to be displayed on the screen for a few seconds, or 'persistent' if you'd like it to be shown until it's manually dismissed.

TIP: To delete a timer on the iPad swipe your finger across the box containing the saved timer you wish to remove and the red 'Delete' button will appear. Tap it to delete the timer or swipe your finger again to hide the button.

Notepad

Your SkyDemon Mobile MD features a notepad which can be accessed at any time from the Flight menu. This is a simple canvas which you can write or draw on with your finger or the device stylus. The contents of the canvas are retained until the device is powered off or you manually clear it.

On the iPad the scratchpad can be accessed easily from the main menu when you're in Go Flying mode and contains multiple pages that can be scrolled through using the 'Next Page' buttons.

SkyDemon Mobile SD/MD Device Settings

Some settings in your device are accessed by exiting the SkyDemon software and entering the device operating system. To exit the SkyDemon software, choose Exit from the System menu. You will see the device operating system screen. Press the Settings button to access the various settings. You may wish to change the following settings:

VolumeUse to adjust the volume of the built-in speaker.
BacklightUse to set the backlight to a specific intensity. The lower the intensity of the backlight, the longer the battery life.
DateTimeSkyDemon sets the date and time of your device automatically from the GPS, but you may need to tell the device which timezone you are in if you wish SkyDemon to tell you local time and adjust automatically for daylight savings.

The other settings are not intended to be changed. When you have finished with the settings, press the round button in the top right corner of the screen to return to the device main menu, then press GPS/Fly to go back into SkyDemon.

Window Management

SkyDemon adapts its display automatically to virtually any screen size and resolution, but sometimes you will want to tailor its appearance to your personal preferences.

Change the Screen Orientation

Some devices support changing the screen orientation between portrait and landscape modes. To do this, open the Settings menu and select Rotate Screen. If you do not see this option available, it means it is not supported by your device. Even when the feature is available it may not always function as intended, so we ask for confirmation that the screen has rotated successfully. If the confirmation button is not pressed the screen will revert to its former state after 5 seconds.

Minimize Window

To minimize the main window and do something else with your device, open the System menu and select Minimize Window. SkyDemon will continue to run in the background while you perform your other task. This is normally only possible on certain devices.

Toggle Keyboard

SkyDemon provides access to the onscreen keyboard of your device automatically in most cases, but if you need to manually toggle it, open the System menu and select Toggle Keyboard.
