Sure - I understand that and it makes perfect sense. It's probably best if I send you some screen shots.
I'll try and explain it though.
Imagine you have a runway showing on the screen (at the default DPI settings) - the text is sized to fit more or less exactly within the runway - so you have the length in the middle and the runway numbers at either end.
If you then double the size of that text, you can no longer see it as it obliterates the underlying runway and all the text draws on top of itself. The runway text itself needs to be excluded from the global scaling if possible.

I've just noticed this is fixed in the latest release.
I would just like to say that I have never once in the past come across a software package which has undergone such rapid development and ongoing enhancement as SkyDemon. The responsiveness of the developers is staggering.
I really do wish you every success.
