It may be that the new forum has more functionality but its far more clunky looking than before. takes up far more screen space per message and is much harder to see at a glance what is going on.
Any chance that the spacing of the messages can be closed up more? Seems to be driven by the size of the pics of each member .. and noone uses an image file .. not even Tim.
What do others think?

The new look is nice and fresh, but the larger design does mean a lot more scrolling.

I agree, but I don't think we actually have any (easy) control over how it looks and feels. I disabled as much of the useless stuff as I could, though, and if it becomes apparent I can disable any more of the things I don't like, I will do so. For technical reasons we had to do the upgrade though.

If you look at some of the demo forums at the developers website, they are much more compressed visually. They seem to exclude pics of the participants (which in our case are all blank anyway).

Some comments on the new forum: I miss the facility to list the posts since my last visit. I also find that I have to logon every visit even though I have ticked the "remember me" box. I cannot find a way of reporting a spam posting. I agree that there is a lot of wasted space and additional scrolling in the current layout.

Having to login everytime is a pain, but I suppose if you just want to browse then it isn't necessary. I also find that having to subscribe to post is a nuisance because I mostly forget to do it.

That's weird, I found that the remember me box never worked for me on the old forum. It doesn't work for me now either.
I agree with everything said in this thread and hopefully we'll have some spare moments at some point to look into how we might customise this place.
