Hey guys!

I was able to install SD on this great 5'' machine. Despite being a chinese device, the brightness of the screen, the quality of the case and the gps receiver are awesome! It finds and lock gps signal inside a house and away from the window.

Here are some photos of my gps. (in some of the pictures the screen seems to have pixels, but this is to due with the camera) .

The aircraft is a Flight Design CT 2K (the flight was performed near my home airfield: Viseu, Portugal - LPVZ)

On the next picture it seems that the screen is unreadble, but was perfect readable by the passenger that was using the gps :

ExclamationThanks to Skydemon team for developing this powerfull aeronautical GPS so "user friendly" Wink

Cheers

I think 5'' is perfect! The 7'' seems to big for a common cockpit

Okay, a few day's ago i ordered one. Very exciting if it for me also going to work. Today received the package. The box inside down folded. Nice down, so it was a white box. Smile

Inside no rock... but indeed a GPS inside. Installed the SkyDemon software, GPS on Com4 / 4800 Baud (i believe) and YES.... it's working. I could the NAV button (the installed CAR software) pointing to the SkyDemon software. So easy going. Now playing with it to get familiar with the unit.

Thanks to Spitzer Smile

I've just got my device in the last couple of days and got Sky Demon working on it no problems (for mine it was Com1/4800 for the GPS). It does seem to have pretty poor battery life though - would need to be paired with a PowerMonkey or similar if there's no useable power supply in the cockpit.

It's a pretty darn good road satnav too (once you set planning mode to "Short" as the default "fast" seems to favour higher speed roads at the expense of longer journey time ?!?!).

So I found it frustrating that the only option was to choose Sky Demon *OR* iGO8 when using the NavPath icon in the device shell that you boot into. I tried adding a shortcut icon to iGo8 on the "WinCE" desktop but that seems to get reset after each boot.

The solution - attached is a "NavSwitcher" app that lets you define two navigation apps. You can then set this as your "Navigation" app and boot straight to it and then simply choose Sky Demon or iGO8. To start with it assumes both are installed to the "ResidentFlash" drive, but you can change the path if needs be. Unfortunately you have to do this by typing the path with the rather horrible on-screen keyboard as the normal file chooser only seems to work when running under the WinCE desktop, not the device shell.

So just dig out NavSwitcher.exe from the attached zip and copy it to \Residentflash\NavSwitcher.exe, then use the NavPath icon on the device to change the Navigation app path to "\Residentflash\NavSwitcher.exe", and optionally have it boot straight to this. Once this is set up you can turn on and pick Sky Demon or iGo8 with one click.

It's built for the device linked on this thread, though it should work on other devices, but it's given away free and the value of support available is the amount you paid for it (you could try posting back on this thread though, you may be lucky) ;-).

I hope someone finds this of use.

Thanks .... this worked fine and is a useful little app. Only point was that on my 5 ins unit I couldn't find an option to boot up directly into Nav ..... on old 4.3 ins unit (different user interface) there was an option. Am I missing something on the newer unit ??

Also ..... there's loads of room on the nav switch screen to add more buttons to select other programmes (nav or others) .... I expect someone could modify .... just a thought.
