If anyone buys/uses one of these units I would be very interested in knowing how it performs. It does look like a decent system.Steve

Hi,
I have get managed to use the 7 " GPS device after many hours of trial&error only
to find out, that for me THE DISPLAY IS ABSOLUTELY NOT CAPABLE for inflight use
as the brightness and contrast is MUCH MUCH to low.
When looking onto the display, all you see is black...
Please consider, that for inflight use ONLY translective or (not so good) transmissive
displays are suitable (my mind).
Please don't waste your time trying to get it work only to find out, that for real use
it is useless.
For me, the best device (tested under real conditions) is the pocket loox n560, as it
has built in GPS, quick cpu and a transflective display, that get even brighter, when direct sunlight comes to it.

Boeing 767, which 7" screen are you referring to, is it the X10 mid or one of the others?

Hi
Can you confirm which device you mean, the first posters generic 7" GPS, or the later poster X10 MID Tablet PC?
Thanks

Good Afternoon, I've been reading the topics with interest and downloaded the trial version for my netbook which I think is excellent. I took the risk and bought this chinese 7 inch unithttp://cgi.ebay.co.uk/7-Inch-GPS-Navigation-4G-Card-CE-5-0-GPS-POI-TTS-128RAM_W0QQitemZ120660676098QQcategoryZ156955QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp4340.m444QQ_trkparmsZalgo%3DCRX%26its%3DC%252BS%26itu%3DSI%252BUA%252BLM%252BLA%26otn%3D20%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D5715149187488116868 Skydemon loaded straight on to it, the only thing I had to do was to drop the small file (found it in another post on here, thanks very much) into the folder to make the fonts increase to a decent size. Unfrotunately the time between downloading the trial and ordering and getting my new toy has meant that after just 2 days of receiving it, the trial version has expired. I would like to buy the full version but could first do with some advice from someone who has used the software for real. My only concern is the 're-drawing' . When I scroll along to different parts of the charts it keeps redrawing, does this affect it all when flying, in other words is it constantly and noticeably redrawing when flying. I'm used to using memory map, which doesn't do this, incidentally I can't get the unit to run memory map, but I am not too hot at fiddling with these things. Also for further info, you can go to the wince 5 desktop on this unit, I'm not sure what the benefit of that is, but you can if needed. The screen is very clear (in the car) I fly in a PA28 or Beagle pup so bright sunlight is much of a problem. Your advice will be appreciated Thanks

The trial version of the mobile software doesn't expire like the desktop version.
Instead, it limits you to 30 minutes use before exiting - so you can still try it in fight despite the expired desktop trial.
Redraws in the air are a non issue. Basically the little plane icon positions itself so that the screen shows more of where you are going. The unit then redraws each time the plane gets near to the middle of the screen.
It works perfectly and I've never found the redraw to be intrusive.

Thanks for that info (stevelup). It seems to work the opposite way for me though, on my mobile unit it has expired, on the bootup screen it only gives the option of 'exit' and no longer the chance to 'I accept'' and says that the evaluation copy has expired (or words to that effect). On the other hand, the desktop version on my netbook still works OK although it does say that the charts are out of date, and mentions the 'charts manager' but I can't find it.

Just an update, I've just bought the plan and Nav package so I can now have a play for real, when the weather improves, that is.

Hi
Can you give us any indication of screen brightness and reflectiveness?
If you walk around outside on a bright day how clearly is the screen readable?
About the speed of the system, does it load and refresh ok?
Does the touch screen work only with a finger, or with a normal stylus too?
Thanks
Kev
