Hello Aviators

Has anyone been able run skydemon on one of those cheap 7" gps device units you see advertised ?
The units run wince so theoretically it should work right ?

I was just wondering if anyone had tried it , before I spend the £100 on a unit.

Thanks

Which particular model were you looking at? I know somebody had it running on an iPAQ which I think might have been 7".

Looks nice! Shame it's generic unbranded, there doesn't seem to be any way of telling what make it is and therefore whether people have successfully gotten arbitrary software to run on it. Although the description does say it'll run most GPS software.

Yeah Tim my thoughts as well. I think I will just bite the bullet and order it.

If worst comes to worst I might have to wangle around with the sytem registry to get it to launch.

Thanks
Dan

Dan

Good luck.

I know someone who brought a 7inch Chinese GPS to run SkyDemon InFlight on it and gave up in the end as he could not get the software to work on it. I also brought a 5inch GPS but again, after hours to try and set it up, can not get the software to run on it even though I have had Memory Map running on it with no problem.

Hi Dan,

I can confirm I have Skydemon working on that very device, although I must admit I'm not 100% sure how I did it.

First you need to break out into wince with CECMD.exe so you can run the .net CAB files directly from the SD card, the skydemon seemed to work after I'd tried both the ARM and x86 versions together, I then deleted stuff until it stopped working and then re-added the last file I deleted. I'll try to post a screenshot of the SD card later when I've a bit more time,

Good Luck,

Topcat.

Hi Topcat

Thats great news. i though it must be possible to run Skydemon on those units.
Have you had a chance to try it in the air yet ?

A friend at my flying club just bought the new Adventurer Pilot 7000 7" ( £599 )and he isn't even that keen on it.
So if this works it will be an excellent alternative and for the money unbeatable.

Great software and reasonably priced hardware....... Happy Days.

Thanks for the post
Dan

Hi, Ive got one of these units running. I found no need to do anymore than copy the SkyDemon files onto the SD card - no need to boot into Windoze CE. The screen is not very good in sunlight and battery life isn't great however.

I bought one of these units, it works great with Inflight (my GPS is COM2, 4800 baud).

Only problem is it doesn't save my default settings (I am on the demo version) and this is the one thing that makes me wary of purchasing it, as the device was being set up for my slightly non-tech savvy partner who will be a little miffed she has to set the GPS device, orientation etc. up each time.

Have you had the same problems with settings not being saved?

I loaded up on the SD card and it worked fine.
