Does anybody have experience with running the web version on linux (Ubuntu 10). I tried to use it with Firefox and Chrome with the moonlight add-on, but it doesn't work. It shows the circle (loading page), but that's it.
Hopefully someone got it running.

What a good idea it would be to run SkyDemon on Linux. For the past year I used Windows on my PC solely to download the latest SD onto my mobile device. When this is done, I re-boot in Linux.

I know that people on the Flyer forum are running SkyDemon Mobile under Linux.

Thanks Tim. I have just seen that. I now have wine, winetricks, and SD installed on a Linux (Ubuntu). Any more hints without taking too much of your time? I feel it is an issue with .netCF.
As said, I only boot in windows if I want to plan a route or update SD on my mobile device. Any hints would be greatly appreciated.

You are at crossed purposes here.
The thread is about Moonlight - which enables SkyDemon Web to run on Linux boxes in the browser. That certainly works - I've tried it, although it's a bit slow. I believe the next version of Moonlight will support hardware accelerated graphics and this should solve the problem.
What you are talking about is running the Windows version of SkyDemon Plan under Wine which is a completely different kettle of fish.
For the time being, I think you would be better off using virtualisation software and boot your Windows install up inside Linux to use SkyDemon Plan.
VirtualBox is free and works well.

Hello Steve, I was talking about several things at the same time, including mobile SD updating via Linux, if possible, but thank you just the same for the advice.

VirtualBox worked well, albeit slow. Perhaps rebooting in windows was a little quicker. Please let me know should there be other alternatives to try.

Just worked out how to get Sky Demon running under Linux using wine.
1. create a new environment with wine prefix - see here-
http://wiki.jswindle.com/index.php/Wine_Prefixes
2. Install .Net version 3 SP1, follow instruction here-
http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=9828
3. use winetricks to install native gdiplus- bash winetricks gdiplus
4. Install the Sky Demon msi.
5.Enjoy!
In theory it should work with .Net version 2 but it didn't want to download the maps when I tried it. I've just started playing with the demo version it and it is impressive, a lot faster than running Moonlight certainly and seems stable so far. I'm currently running Fedora 16.

Hi, I am successfully running SD plan using Wine under FreeBSD (UNIX OS similar to Linux for those unfamiliar with it) I used winetricks to install .Net 2 and GDI+ Even syncing with my mobile device works after a little tweaking of wine. What doesn't work is the simulator/GPS, the window just goes blank. Keith did you get it to work? I even got it working under wine in Mac OS X too.

Hi Jakob, I get the blank window running the simulator/GPS too, been trying to find a fix with other winetricks downloads and various native DLLs but have drawn a blank. Also, have you found that if you close the virtual radar and route windows at the bottom you can't open them again? I think that could be related. Keith
