Binatone G500 - Version 1.3 of the SkyDemon software.The display will only work in landscape mode, rotation of the display is not possible.
Step 1. MioPocket needs to be installed to "unlock the system", this needs to be done from a micro SD card (free download from Google).
Step 2. Using ActiveSync, copy the SkyDemon files to the 'residentflash' (the SD card is too slow to initialize and will have intermittent loading issues), you may need to delete the on board road navigation software to make space (save it somewhere in case you want to restore the system to original specification) - the quickest way is to use a Micro SD card to copy/paste files from, the USB lead is very slow.
Step 3. Using a 'mobile registry editor' (free download from Google), change the HKLM/init key (item 9999) from the MioPocket launch path to the path for your installation of SkyDemon (\residentflash\SkyDemon\SkyDemon.exe) and remove the original navigation system launch entry (item99 - \launch.exe) - save the registry before making any changes (or at least take a screen capture for future reference).
Step 4. copy the license file over to the device (unless it's in 30 day trial mode), reboot, using the power button (don't use the small hole on the side for a 'hard reset' as that will reset the registry to factory settings !).
Step 5. SkyDemon should now be running, sync with activesync for all logs/maps/routes etc.
Some information.....
Screen size = 5 inch (not great in bright sunlight, but hey it's a very cheap system)
Battery Life = approx 3 hours (North up mode, no terrain shading)
Time to obtain satellite fix = approx 5 minutes (if you are not moving it's quicker, it's always ready by the time the pre-flight checks are done)
The sounds all work if you use the control panel link to change the volume to full
Syncs with desktop PC using activesync and the supplied USB cable
Cost = approx £90 - £100 online, delivered
Comes with a 12VDC charger (cigarette lighter socket connector) and windscreen suction mount which seems to stay put well - does anyone know where I can get a power connector for the strange power socket used in the Cessna 172SP so I can charge the system in flight ??
If anyone needs any help setting up one of these units I would be happy to support, I would happily do the setup for you - for a small fee ;-)
