Works well with skydemon and comes with IGO on the unit as well. Screen quality is on par with the aware units and in fact it appears to be the same as the aware unit - metal casing etc. Only snag is the unit isn't fully light readable (but then the aware unit isn't either) and the battery only lasts just over an hour.

Overall the best 5" Chinese sat nav that I have used.

How do you get it to work?  I have one as well, I just loaded Skydemon onto the SD card.  Through Win explorer I can launch it but it doesn't seem to link to the GPS receiver (built in) and there is also the normal windows bar at the bottom.  Thanks

I need a little more to work with

does Skydemon actually run on you win CE device?

if it does then you need to configure skydemon to revognise the GPS unit

Settings-GPS Setup and then configure the correct com port. Trial and error is one way the other is to boot up IGO and use its autodetect facility to correctly identify the com port

I think I have got it to work, thanks for your help Bathman.  I loaded Skydemon onto the SD card and then made the unit navigate to the card to run it on start up, then got the GPS to work by trial and error with the settings.  I also had a slightly loose connection on the USB port that complicated it a bit, but fixed now.

Anyway, fantastic if it all works reliably.  It only cost £65 and seems exactly the same as the Airspace aware that I also have (same 1 hour battery life, I just carry a power monkey.  It is also not completely light readable but works fine even if you have to shade it a bit sometimes).   I will keep the airspace aware as a backup.  In my view 5" display is perfect for light aircraft, anything bigger and it would get in the way unless there was a spare panel to mount it on.  At 5" it is fine to just stick to the canopy or even kneeboard etc.

Managed to fit a larger capacity battery into the unit. Replaced the stock 850mah unit with a Nokia BL-5C 1800mah off ebay. Needed a little bit of plastic cutting away inside the unit but externally its looks identical. Lasts about two and a half hours between charges. Really pleased.

Great job! Beats me why the manufacturers don't put the best battery they can into there, but there you go.

It's a £30 unit so they probably put the cheapest possibly battery in there. If they didn't, it wouldn't be £30 any more Smile

I guess that 99.9999% of these units are used in cars where a power socket is a given. The battery is really only there so you're not inconvenienced by the unit going off if the power is briefly interrupted, or so you can sit in your house to fiddle with it before setting off.

Realistically, a fifteen minute battery life would be OK on a car GPS!

Any tips on access to the battery - e.g any particular screws or all 8?

Sorry for the slow reply.

Of the eight screws you only remove four.

The four that you remove are the posterior four (the ones furthest away from the screen. They are dead short and you prise them out as much as unscrew them. You can then lift the back metal posterior case away to reveal a black plastic inner pane. Prise this away and you can then get access to the inbuilt crappy battery.

Hope that helps
