Navigon 8410 / 8450 files

I have created a DropBox account (free for 2GB version) and put a folder on it re 8410 files needed to run SkyDemon. The SkyDemon application still has to be installed by you so that its a bona fide user etc.

If anyone wants to use this, set up your own DropBox acct and then send me a PM with your DropBox name and I will link you to the relevant folder.

Works well with skydemon and comes with IGO on the unit as well. Screen quality is on par with the aware units and in fact it appears to be the same as the aware unit - metal casing etc. Only snag is the unit isn't fully light readable (but then the aware unit isn't either) and the battery only lasts just over an hour.

Overall the best 5" Chinese sat nav that I have used.

I have trouble communicating between Plan on a tablet PC and my Skymap IIIc. The interface cable is the standard BendixKing 3 way serial which requires a serial to USB lead. The port for the USB has been set to Com5. The Preferences have been set accordingly.

On the Skymap the OUTPUT defaults to NONE, changing this to either option (NMEA, etc) results in a Sky Demon timeout.

Has any SD user managed to communicate to a Skymap IIIc and if so what are the right settings?

Skymap has firmware v1.22 with current dayabase.

Mio C520t installing problems

I have a Mio C520t and have tried to load SkyDemon but have failed! One other member, using a Mio C320 suggested loading MioPocket on to the SD card first. I tried loading this but failed, I have visited http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=86952

The Mio C520 is listed by SkyDemon as a supported unit, the C520t has a docking tray with a traffic receiver in it, I assume it is the same, otherwise, to a C520. Any advice would be appreciated.:)

Output to GARMIN 196

Hi - I have just discovered your software and think it has great potential for me. I have a Garmin 196 that at present I use with Easy GPS to manage waypoints, but that's about all it can do. Easy GPS is by no means a Flight planner. However, in using SkyDemon I have found I can't get it to communicate with my Garmin to export the routes and points I create in the programme as I get a Device Not Found on Universal serial Buss message. This is odd because the self same Garmin 196 communicates quite happily with Easy GPS using a USB to Serial converter and when set through the Prolific (the manufacturer of the USB to Serial converter) driver to COM 3.

Thinking Sky Demon might use another COM Port (I can't find out which it uses) I have tried several alternatives, but still get the Device Not Found message when I select 'Export to Garmin' in the Route Menu.

If I can't get the routes to output to my GPS then I'm afraid there will be no point using Sky demon and that will be a real shame. Can anybody help with settings to get it to talk to my Garmin 196. Clearly my COM ports and cables work as I get good connectivity to Easy GPS so it must be something in the Sky Demon set up.

Hopefully someone knows how to fix this.

Map not showing

Hi,

I have loaded SkyDemon onto my PND - probably a chinese one.

The program apppears to be working in bare-bones mode - I can access the dialogue boxes, make changes to the units etc, but the UK map is not showing, though it is present in the folder structure.

Digging around in sysinfo I find "Software Version : V3.0.9.26"

I guess that if this Version number relates to CE (I don't know whether it does), then this PND won't run SkyDemon properly - or am I doing something else wrong?

The units run wince so theoretically it should work right ?

I was just wondering if anyone had tried it , before I spend the £100 on a unit.

I installed skyDemon on a HD2, at first it ran ok, but after playing with a few options it crashed, and even wiping the directory and reinstalling it still wont work again?

Are there any settings stored outside of the SkyDemon directory I can delete?

How can I get a copy of the error pasted here?

The first few lines are:

Microsoft.AGL.COmmon.MISC.HandleAr()
at System.Drawing.Font_Init()
at System Drawing Font..ctor()
at Divelements.Aviation.Flightplanner.Rendering .....

I am trying to install the software on this device. I used the cable to install directly as recommended and it worked ok with the 'start skydemon once installed button' checked. The problem is getting it to start on subsequent boots.

I had this same GPS working with PocketFMS and there was a workaround someone devised here: http://www.pocketfms.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=5512 However, it doesn't seems to work for Skydemon this way. I expect there is some other easy workaround, but would appreciate any help anyone might have finding it!

on the weekend I have finally been able to use the GPS inflight on a crosscountry flight.

Costs: £80
- GPS
- sunshade
- protection sleeve
- car and power socket
- also contains

-the device runs on WinCe 6.0 and has 128MB RAM (important for TTS Voices for Car navigation)
- SIRF Atlas Ⅳ AT840 500 MHZ
- 4.8 inch TFT touch panel with 480x272 pixel, LED backlighting (found it is not as bright as I was hoping for)
- 900 mAH

The device comes with a preinstalled interface. You can select the device to boot into the WinCE screen.
Which ever option you select will be remembered after a reset and boot.
--> this is good as I made several icons on the desktop for Igo8, Skydemon and a Calculator (for fuel calc etc)

The GPS receiver is super fast getting a signal. It can receive upto 20satellites
but normally has 7-9. It aquires a signal faster than my smartphone.

The resolution and screen has a big size although I need to have the DPI XML trick from Tim for it to scale all the buttons
properly.

It accepts my 16GB Micro SD card so there is plenty of space for music, videos, maps etc.

During flight there were no problems, no crashes . Skydemon logged the complete flight (unfortunatly it also showed me every tiny deviation from my track :). You can view all buttons of sky demon very well and always have quick look
at your current position compared to your planned track. I havent planned to replane my route during flight as I ment to fly and look outside. I enjoyed the readable of warnings warnings (visually you can see them, but the audio was not loud enough for me to hear it). Funny it did remind me I was off track by 0.1 mile :)

The flight was almost 2 hrs long and the device still had a little juice left. I will plan to have a powermonkey just in case, but 2 hrs is more than enough for me anyway.

Overall this is a cheap working system. however it will be good to see what devices Tim can find and if those have a better
sunreadable screen.

it seems many of you have the device working on various devices, but which device has a good readable screen
which doesnt mind a bit of sunlight?

I have a standart china navi 5 inch with Wince6. It is ok in the car, but walking around outside or in a plane it will not work
so well. However It is not as bright as my Tytn2 PDA which does not help either.

What about the Binatone G500? It says "Super bright, anti-reflective touch screen 5” wide-screen LCD "
--> anybody tried this?

Crash on USB Garmin GPS upload, v1.3.2.18776

Hi,

Others seem to have had the same issue recently - the Waymex.GpsLibrary failing to load when exporting a route to a USB Garmin device. I have just tried all sorts of attempts to get a route into a 496 with no success; this is on a 64 bit Vista PC if that makes any difference.

An update to 1.3.2 didn't fix it, neither did the usual games of restarting PC and/or GPS. EasyGPS can talk OK to the unit so it doesn't seem to be a hardware issue. What magic have I failed to do to make this work? :)

Navman S50

Hi All
Love the software, but trying to get it to work on a navman S50.
I have unlocked the device successfully, installed .net in the root directory of the device and installed Sky Demon on an SD card. I get the message that implies that a component is missing when I click on Skydemon.exe on the card when it is in the device.
Any ideas? Thanks

Has anyone used or had experiance of this sat nav system (Binatone G500) ?

It has WinCE 5.0 and a big 5 inch display, for only £70 it looks like a bargin, before buying one I would like to know how/if the SkyDemon system will work or not on it.

I have been testing your commendable software on a popular PNA device distributed here in Germany by Medion or ALDI, the Medion GoPal P5430. Version 1.2 is working flawlessly on a GPS setting with 57600 baud on COM 2.

When trying 1.2.1 beta, the device fails to initiate the GPS routine (although car navigation features are fine). I get the following error message

"skydemon.exe MissingMethodException Can't find PInvoke DLL 'Divelements.NativeSupport.dll at ......................

Any ideas?

Problems communicating with Garmin 296

Hi,

Since updating to the new version of software, I have been unable to send/receive routes to my 296. I have been getting the following error message

"Unhandled exception has occurred in your application.....Could not load file or assembly 'Waymex.GpsLibrary , Version+1.0.0.0, Culture=Neutral.....The located assembly's manifest definition does not match the assembly reference..."

This means nothing to me, but hopefully somebody will be able to help me resolve this problem.

For info. Purchased mio recently as it is a windows based gps. This is the 4.7 inch widescreen with touch screen. Installed mio pocket on 4 gig micro SD card and sucessfully installed sky angel. Plenty of space left on card.

Works very well but you need to keep menu bar visible otherwise the eta box is hidden by the X button on the top right of screen.

The required port for the gps is 2 and the default baud rate 4800 works fine.

Has anyone been able to get skydemon to run on the navigon 7100. If so any info would help. I would love to get this install but I can't get it to open on i just get an error that says I need to have .net framework 3.5 installed. When I try to install .net framework it tells me it is not a valid windows CE program.

This is a PNA with a 4.3" 480x272 screen. Windows CE Core 5.0
After struggling a bit with .NET CF 3.5 I got it to at least start.
However after a few seconds i crashes with an error message.

Comparison of devices for SkyDemon Flight

Guys, Would it be possible to create a topic here with a table of all the devices and their respective pros & cons i.e. the screen size, battery life, ease of software installation, and issues (good or bad), mounting options, power options, gps settings etc. etc.

I think this would make it a lot easier to decide which device to purchase if you are looking to buy new, it would also be an easy way to see the options for working devices without having to trawl this forum area to find out the basic data you need, once you have decided on a device then you can search for device specific details.

I will be in the market for buying another device soon, the Samsung Omnia I currently have is good but the screen is a little small for everyday use, and looking in this forum to decide on the best device to go for is not easy !

Maybe a simple table with some of the above headings would give just what is needed, it would also be good to post this table on the website page for any newcomers to see if their device works and any pro's/con's for that device.

Still waiting for some more decent weather to get up in the air again........doh !

PS: the new software versions are really a big improvement, keep up the GREAT work !

Just installed the software on my mobile phone, Samsung Omnia, it all works fantastically well - straight out of the box so to speak. The text is a little small but then again so is the screen ! Really good job guys, this works great, I can't wait to find a third party device with a bigger screen so it's easier to read in the cockpit.

I was just about to pay a subscription to PocketFMS, mainly for the flight planning tool and the ability to use on a mobile device, I'm no longer going to do that as this software is so much easier to use and really has given me exactly what I need for VRF flying.

I will be trying the wince version on my car satnav this weekend, lets see what happens with that !

I will very happily pay for this software when you guys put it out on a commercial basis.

I can't speak highly enough about this tool.......fantastic !

Any one using a Loox-560

I'm trying to set skydemon inflight up on a fujitisu loox 560 windows mobile 5.0. I've copied the file to an SD card but when I go to install it on the device it just says 'can not be installed'.

Has anyone had any luck setting the software up on the loox 560? If so, any chance you could guide me through the process of what you did?

Here is the procedure that I used to install SkyAngel Inflight on my Navigo.

1. Download the Windows CE version of Inflight (I used version 0.9.8).

2. Using Winrar or similar extract the downloaded files and store them on the Navigo's SD card. I did it using the card reader built into my laptop.

3. Rename IRELAN~1.002 to Ireland.skydata, UK29C1~1.003 to UK.skydata and SkyAngel.001 to SkyAngel.exe.

4. Create a file in the root of the SD card called shell.ini (use right click-new-text document).

5. Edit shell.ini to contain \sdmmc\skyangel.exe

6. Save and close the file.

7. With the SD card in the Navigo press the RESET switch on the side with a pen.

8. When it starts up select the Navigation icon and SkyAngel will run.

What I cannot work out is how to select COM7 in the GPS set up screen. Mine defaults to COM4 and only offers COM1 & 2, none of which work.

The Win Mobile Cab installation doesn't work on this device, says unrecognised, but the WinCE inflight app works apart from connecting to the GPS.

The GPS is a Compact Flash gps on Com6, I select com6 9600 (or any speed), it opens the port, light on the GPS comes on, then 1/2 a second later the light goes off and the gps settings screen goes back to 'start GPS' :(

The map looks nice on the vga screen, any idea how to get the gps to work? It works in tomtom and pocketFMS.

MYGUIDE 4200 - SkyAngelInFlight installed at last

Hi all,

The MyGuide 4200 is available off Ebay - £55 with car charger/mains charger/suction mount/PC data cable - it has a 4.3 inch touch screen. An aerial would probably be an advantage - there is a socket for one. Also a standard 1 GB SD card will be needed - the one supplied is full.

Just installed Inflight and it starts up. Will check it on the road tomorrow.

First step was to install a CE icon on the start screen - easy enough. This allows one to navigate to the SD card where Inflight is. The original SD card has a text file called ADDONS. Open that via PC card reader and add a line under Modules and above "Navigate " : CE_EXP = "","\\windows\\explorer.exe" This will add the CE icon which will allow one to browse to the SkyAngel.exe icon on the SD card - double tap SkyAngel.exe with the stylus and done.

Using Active Sync I moved the unzipped Inflight folder contents and the Northwest Europe maps from PC to the new SD card in the 4200 via the PC cable supplied. The version I downloaded today has the files renamed to data files now.

In the ideal world the "Navigate" icon should start Inflight with that SD card in the slot but it seems to be directed to the "hard drive " to start the road map side of things. I may try to add another line to the ADDONS text file to place a SKYANGEL icon on the menu.

This a PNA with 3.5" screen. Windows CE .NET 4.2 Core
After some hacking with .NET CF 3.5 I got it to run.
Switching screen orientation to landscape mode (which is the device native) does not use the full width.
Searching waypoints is quite slow. (Maybe there is a faster/better search/sort algorithm?)

SkyAngels works fine on the Mio C320. Needs MioPocket on the SD card as well to unlock the device - unless anyone knows how to autorun SkyAngel from the SD card.

This unit has been unlocked and runs other programmes ok including Memory Map. Have loaded InFlight on both SD and Flash Disk and got it running fine except that using any of the route menu items brings up an error message with consequent need to quit and restart. So close and yet so far away!!

Bought this unit recently and still trying to install Inflight.

Some members of Flyer forums have been very helpful (northpole,mdc)but I still "don't get it !!" I need a smaller SD card first.

Hope I can get it up and running - it is quite reasonably priced and running on WinCE 5.0 - quite a few VFR flyers could find it useful.

Couldn't get InFlight working on this device, which is a shame as the 4.2" widescreen is really nice.

I believe that the problem is due to the version of WinCE on the 4228 not including the necessary support for .NET CF :angry:. Despite trying to install .NET or copying the files to the SkyAngel directory, I couldn't get it to work.

Everything else I've tried on this device works fine - MM, TomTom etc. but not SkyAngel :crying:

Has anyone else had any better luck?

InFlight works fine on the Navigo V2. I had to extract the files from the CAB manually and then copy them over to the SD card but it then runs fine.

You will also need to set the GPS settings to COM7 and 38400 and select "Use Alternate Port Access".
