problem Chart update

Have just downloaded new Uk charts from SD server and then synced SD mobile via card.

Now when you load SD on mobile, UK chart is not automatically loaded. You have to go to charts and load it.

Is there a setting for this or should it be automatic. Still persists next time around.

Just helped an SD user to prepare microSD card for use in Navigon 8410.

Works fine but on this new install, when you click on menu items in SD Mobile, you get an audible click. Its not present on my own installation. How do you get rid of it. All files apart from SkyDemon diectory on SD card are exact copies of my own files. Loaded the Skydemon directory by "installing SD Mobile" from laptop via card option. Must be some setting in SkyDemon but I cannot find it.

Perhaps you cd show me where to toggle on/off.

Am rather concerned re map accuracy.

Flew from N Yorks to Boston today. Part of route was throgh the stub between Cranwell and Coningsby. I particularly noticed a difference of some 0.5 miles between Garmin (Jeppesen) and SkyDemon re the southern stub boundary. According to SD I reached the s Boundary about 0.5 miles before Garmin said so. One has to be wrong. Pains me to say it but suspect Jeppesen is correct.

Other than that 8410/SD worked flawlessly.

Also location of my home field, Husthwaite is wrong in SD. I know this because when you are on the runway, airfield loaction on SD is about 0.3 miles south.

Conversely, all roads are exactly right .. going by test when just driving about.

Any thoughts Tim?

NOTAMS

Hi, I am using both the plan and inflight system, and when I sync the two together (activesync) it says that it is syncing NOTAMS to the mobile device (amongst other things), my question is does that actualy sync the (route/all) NOTAMS to the device ?

When I look at the mobile device I can't see any NOTAMS, even with a route selected etc.

Could you please explain exactly how this function works to allow the inflight system to warn of any NOTAMS.

Tim, I've been holding off to see if anyone else had a problem with the Trajectory Display Menu. (Obviously not:D)

On the previous full version & the last 2 betas, I've been unable to change "Settings" - "Preferences" - "Moving Map" Trajectory Display. When I click the arrow, the box turns blue, but no other option shows. I can only change by opening settings.xml, & editing <AircraftDisplayOptions TrajectoryDisplay= with notepad. The new value is then recognised.

(Still not able to bring up Notams on the Satnav either.

Using WinCE5 & WinCE6 4.3" Satnav units.

Everything else works beautifully. Program is getting to the stage where, if I wasn't so tight fisted, I'd buy it.

terrain alert thresholds

Trying to undertsand how this works.

The default is 800' vert and 3.0NM horizontal.

I guess this means that if current track and altitude takes you to a point where vert clearance is <800', then at the 3 NM point you will get a warning on screen.

Or it could mean that if you are going to pass within 3 miles of a clearance <800', then you will be warned.

Also how does this work in the circuit and on landing? I have noticed being plagued with ATZ warnings in the circuit and have switched the machine off. But I dont remember terrain warnings .. maybe these were switched off anyway.

What settings have others used to get the best balance?

x10 MID cheapo chinese 7" device

Thought users might like to hear my thoughts on this very cheap 7" device running WinCE6 R3.

Google MID X10 and you will find lots of refs to it.

Its a 7" screen with 800*480 resolution. I have it running MemMap, Sky demon & Pocket FMS .. all from same MicroSD card. Apart from ensuring you get the right version (road angel build) of mem Map, you do not have to do any WinCE fiddling (like installing miopocket, .net etc).

Alos it does run Active Sync (or MDC in Vista/W7) properly .. but this buried in the settings.

My main concern was whether the screen would be bright enough. If you have a bubble canopy (a la Eurostar, Sportcruier etc), then in direct sunlight it wd be too dim, I think. I fly a CT and there is a bracing tube along the top of the cockpit just above eye level and about 12-14" in front of one's face. I fashioned a good support to position from this bar. Worked a treat and it was a pretty bright day today.

Ran it from battery which is said to ahve 6-7 hr duration. Not sure its that good but I cd easliy believe 3+ on full brightness. But you can use cigar lighter charger (not USB unfortunately).

Its very slow to acquire a GPS fix but once it has seems pretty good. SUGGESTION for Tim here. PFMS changes the colour of the plane icon to designate quality of fix .. default is black for no fix, red for poor fix and green for full fix. Works great as you are always looking at the icon. Stops those annoying alerts.

BUT the mobile version still needs improved ergonomics in my view:

It should be possible to increase the size of the menu items. With this big a screen that wd be no problem.
There is room for some programmable buttons .. eg invert route
The altitude and other data readout size cd be increased .. say by 50%
Size of time readout is small too.
Trackup often lags behind and does not right itself quickly enough. I am used to the track line being vertical .. at times it was often 15 degrees off vertical. Then caught up after a minute or so. Especially happens after direction change at a way point.

Well that's my first impressions. Feel free to add comments, ask Qs or send PM so we can chat on the phone.

1.4 beta

i just uploaded the new 1.4 beta (which is still called 1.3.3. strangly) and i like it

The Mag track is now showing and if you dont use the direction instrument you get a bearing to your track.

I noticed that when simulating a flight I pointed the aircraft directly towards the next waypoint and i was maybe 1 mile off track.

The indicator however still showed me to turn a further 10 degrees. Does this mean now it advises you of a bearing back to your track instead of the bearing from your current position towards the next waypoint? (You explained to me before the later was the case - this now seems to have changed?)

i will hopefully go flying later this afternoon so i can also test it in the air.

In Flight Feedback

Am starting to get to grips with the inflight programme. V impressed. Got it working on Navigon 8410 with newbie's help.

Have only used it in car so far. But I loaded a route and drove to the airfield this evening. What appeared to happen re Next Waypoint was most interesting. When I started driving I was close to the first waypoint (start was the airfield) but then it seemed to refer to Waypoint No2 (25 NM away). Only when I rebooted did it get back to No1 which was still nearest. Its as if at some point I was "past" No 1 and so it kept referring to No2 even though I had effectively "turned back" on myself. If thats really what happened could be dangerous in the air.

Position .. I know the lat/long is given at top of screen. But if you fire up the PC version and attach a GPS antenna, then position wrt an ICAO airfield (or some such) is given. This is extremely useful esp when air traffic ask for position report. I use the same feature on G296 all the time. Pl can we have it on InFlight WinCE version of software.

Just a few thoughts.

Exceptions on Navigon 8410 (WinCE 6)

I've finally managed to get SkyDemon InFlight running on my Navigon 8410. This is a recent WinCE 6.0 device with a bright 5" touch screen - ideal for running in-flight GPS software on. I've looked at all the aviation GPS software for WinCE and the SkyDemon package seems to be by far the clearest, most intuitive software to use - PocketFMS feels dated and sluggish in comparison and has a lot of catching up to do.

I can get the SkyDemon InFlight software to start up, load the map, and very quickly acquire a GPS position. I can pan around the map and zoom in and out. However, certain actions cause an exception in the constructor of InputPanel:

NotSupportedException
at Microsoft.AGL.Common.MISC.HandleAr(PAL_ERROR ar)
at Microsoft.WindowsCE.Forms.InputPanel...ctor()
at ...

For example, the exception occurs:

* On the Edit Route dialog when I click the "Start Route" button.
* When I choose "Chart --> Find Waypoint...".
* When I choose "Tools --> Toggle Keyboard".

I'm not familiar with .NET CF development, but a bit of Googling suggests that it's quite a common problem to do with trying to display the on-screen keyboard.

Any help would be appreciated - I'd really like to use SkyDemon.

Tim, trying out SkyDemon Mobile, V 1.3.2 in trial mode, & have found a problem?.

When using the route editor, I select "Start Route" & put in Shoreham. Then click "Continue" & SkyDemon shuts down.

This happens on both Navigo V2 4.3" units. Have also just tried a completely fresh install & still get the same result.

Not sure if its just my Sat Navs or a general problem? Maybe others could confirm?

wince6 getting error "not supported exception"

Having got vers 1.3 running on my gps and starting to tune the settings I found that the auto mircosoft gps option was greyed out. The COM port was found easily enough by trial and error but I would vakue any advice concerning Baud rates. I haven't got a clue what a baud rate is and fear my natural tendency to think bigger is better, which has failed me on a number of occasions in the field of Cakes and Desserts..amongst others, may fail me again.

Available settings include 4800..9600..19200..38400..57600.

Now I've tried all of them and settled on ..you guessed it 57600 (todate nothing has exploded) ; but was disturbed to read in your explanatory notes suggesting 9600.

HI I have just installed V1.3.2 on my mobile device, and have an issue with the "warning Options" configuration screen.

The "General" tab has a scroll bar to the right hand side so I can get to the obstructions warning settings very well, however the "Airspace" tab doesn't have a scroll bar, I can see that there is at least one option down there under the "warning time:" box (not sure what it is), but I can't get to it to see.

Install 1.3, no luck on Navigon 8410 and iPaq 4700

As a long term user of another software package I was stunned by the visual cleanliness of SkyDemon Plan.

I prepared the InFlight version, but cannot get it to work yet on two different systems.

1. On Navigon 8410, it does not start at all. I tried MioPocket, which managed to mess up my Navigon. Luckily I had a backup, so I could restore the Navigon

2. On my iPaq 4700, the program starts, rotates the screen from portrait to landscape, draws the side bar and the bottom altitude window, and then crashes with an exception.

Can either of these two issues be fixed? I would love to see the InFlight part work.

Alternatively, can SkyDemon Plan run from a self-contained USB stick (as 'some other rprogram' can)?

GPS problem after Beta

Very nice software. Can't wait for further development. (that's why I made a mess installing the beta)

I have had the current version installed for some time on a tablet DELL XT2 XFR with no problems.

Yesterday I tried it and installing the Beta. After that I got into problem with the GPS. When I push Start GPS often the program will freeze for a while and then give the following message "There was an error while trying to open the GPS device" and next line "semaforens timeout periode er udløbet" meaning somethin like "the semafore has timed out"

I thought this was a problem only with the beta because I have not expirienced it before. I then uninstalled the beta and then installed the current version.

Sadly the problem is still there. uninstalling It seems the beta install did something bad to the GPS connection.

How do i proceed to get back to the working system I had.

Hi ive just upgraded to 1.3, and my old setting had it rotate the screen 90 degrees.

It comes up with the new skydemon page, says loading, rotates screen 90 degrees but at top half of screen so i cannot press continue or Exit so can go no further.

Any ideas

Version 1.3 Issues/Feedback

I have just installed version 1.3 on both my desktop and mobile GPS system (Binatone G500), it was all working perfectly well with the version 1.2, used it for a trip to Duxford on saturday afternoon, performed great as usual.

However now I have version 1.3 installed the system reportsd that I have an evaluation version and wants to shut down in 30 minutes, I have re-copied the license file back over to the device, removed all the files and installed from scratch again, still no change, any ideas how I can make the version into a full version ?

PS: I did install the evaluation version on the device a week or so ago just to have a look, then put V1.2 back on for the weekend flight.

SkyDemon Mobile on Navigon 8410

Hi everybody,

I am trying to install SkyDemon Mobile on a Navigon 8410 (a supported device according to http://www.skydemon.aero/inflight/hardware.aspx), so far to no avail. I tried both from a Windows XP and a Windows 7 installation which both run under Parallels on my MacBook. The key problem appears to be that the Navigon is not recognised neither by ActiveSync under XP nor by the Windows Mobile Device Center under Windows 7, such that I cannot install the .NET Compact Framework.

I can install SkyDemon Mobile onto the removable microSD card, but that is not recognised by the 8410, presumably because .NET CF is missing???

Thanks in advance for any advice that anybody on this forum may be able to offer....

NB SkyDemon Plan works beautifully in my Windows/Parallels installation.

I just installed v.0.9.7 successfully on my Mio C320 device but it lacks a bit of performance compared to the previous version.
Does it increase performance if InFlight is installed in the flash memory and not on the SD card? Are there any other tips
how to let it run smoother?

Beta version 1.2.1 error message on ipaq 2750

Hi all.

I recently downloaded the sample version of skydemon in flight and after a minor amount of tweaking (my I.T. skills aren't up to much) loaded this on to the SD Card on my ipaq 2750 via active sync. I paired this with my Bluetooth GPS very easily and it was fantastic!!

To move on a step further so I could have time to test this in flight I removed the sample software and downloaded the beta 1.2.1 to the same location. The software seems to download with no problems and I can get as far as the opening screen, however, when tapping 'continue' it appears to be trying to download the maps but then I get an error message as follows:

Can't find PInvoke DLL 'Divelements.NativeSupport.dll'.

Any ideas anyone??

I'd love to buy this software because the sample looked so good but I really want to fly before I buy and I need to know that i'll be able to get it working on my ipaq.

No Altitude Information

I have been using In-Flight on both my laptop and pda and in both cases I get no altitude information. The gps unit is a cheap one from Maplins which connects via bluetooth.

I monitered the incoming messages on the com port and get the following:

$GPGGA,081925.000,5134.2084,N,00022.1493,W,1,06,1.3,63.5,M,47.0,M,,0000*7C
$GPRMC,081925.000,A,5134.2084,N,00022.1493,W,0.19,114.94,310510,0,,A*4E

AFAICS the altitude is correctly reported in the GPGGA message as 63.5 metres. Why does this not display ?

Europe map data problem

Hi folks,

I added France and Benelux data recently to the data folder along with UK and Ireland.

When I panned out only UK and Ireland were visible - blue everywhere else.

I did use ActiveSync to move the files ( as I did with all the other files) - then I downloaded the latest versions of map data and moved them over via ActiveSync - still lots of blue and no France or BeNeLux.

Any idea what I am doing wrong ? The rest works fine.

Version 1.2 Working On 'Old School' HP iPAQ h6340 PDA

Hi Tim,

Late last year I downloaded the original Beta version of your software and was suitably impressed. Not long afterwards, the full version was released.

During April I used a copy of the full version of SkyDemon Plan when I went on a flying trip around France with my friend David Dowell and once again I was impressed to see the software in action on a daily basis.

On my return I downloaded version so that I could trail the released version, with a view to buying the product.

As part of my testing, I've been tinkering with an old HP iPAQ h6340 PDA to see if I could get the SkyDemon Mobile to work on it and I'm please to say that today I've got it to work, with only 1 real bug.

Hopefully these notes will be useful for others who may wish to install on a similar device:

1. On an old Windows CE device, you will problaby need to install Microsoft .NET Compact Framework Version 2.0. Due to the age of my device, I chose version 2.0 as I thought it was likely to be more compatible. You can download it from the link below:

2. Download the Microsoft .NET Compact Framework Version 2.0 installer on to your PC and then run it. If like my install, it didn't want to automatically install on to my iPAQ, so all I did was locate the install .CAB file and copy it to my iPAQ storage card and launch the installer direct from the iPAQ. The install .CAB file can be found here:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft.NET\SDK\CompactFramework\v2.0\WindowsCE\wce400\armv4\NETCFv2.ppc.armv4.cab

2. Next locate the SkyDemon Mobile installer: C:\Program Files\Divelements Limited\SkyDemon\InFlightInstaller.exe and run it, with you PDA connected.

You will probably get an error message saying that it can't find .NET Compact Framework Version 2.0 on your PDA, but just ignore this and continue. When you select your maps, make sure you have enough space on your PDA storage card to accommodate them. The application is about 55Mb and the maps require between 2 - 5Mb each. I just loaded up the UK map for testing.

3. The installation to the storage card takes time, so be patient! Eventually it will finish and SkyDemon Mobile should start automatically. When it starts, it takes a while to load up the maps, but once loaded, it behaves quite quick.

4. Next we need to get the GPS working. My HP iPAQ h6340 doesn't have an inbuilt GPS receiver, so I decided to use a bluetooth receiver paired to it. I'm personally using an iBlue 747A GPS receiver, which I bought cheap on eBay. Just start up the Bluetooth Manager and search for the Bluetooth GPS and connect. You then need to connect the GPS to SkyDemon Mobile, which is done under 'Tools', 'GPS Settings'. Unless you know the Comm Port the GPS has been installed on, then you may need to test each Comms Port listed. I eventually found my installed on Comm Port 7, with a Baud Rate 57600.

Once I started the GPS in SkyDemon Mobile, it all worked fine. The only issues I have found is that I can't seem to synch between SkyDemon Plan on my PC and my HP iPaq h6340. Despite ActiveSync running correctly and my iPAQ docking and undocking correctly, I just can't get SkyDemon Plan to sync. I get the error message:

"Unable to connect to the remote device. Ensure that your device is connected via ActiveSync and try again. Further information:

Unable to create ActiveSync object. Make sure ActiveSync is installed "

I'm running ActiveSync 3.7.1; is there a minimum version required to get the synchronisation working?

However, the Sync not working isn't too much of an issue as I can just manually copy my routes to the storage card on the iPAQ, which seems to work fine.

I just need to trial it in the air now, however it looks like I'll be making a purchase of the full product at the end of my trial period as I'm extremely impressed with it.

1.2.1 roads and railways

Tim,
I've downloaded the 1.2.1 beta, and it all seems to work fine - apart from that the 'roads and railways' aren't displayed. I've tried unchecking and checking the tick box, but to no avail. It's running on a Loox 560.

I haven't yet tried it while flying, but the improved alerts look very useful. One thing I would still like to see is a simplified update process for InFlight (or is it now mobile?). It would be a lot easier for me if the installer worked out that I already had a previous version installed, and replaced the necessary files without me having to tell it what to do. I invariably end up with duplicated files and confused menu and button assignments.

Apart from that it's great!

No map showing on latest release

I have just downloaded the latest release 0.9.13 and have been testing it in the car. However all I get is a blank blue screen. The cursor showing my direction of travel and speed is working. It would appear that the map is not loading.

Any ideas why pls?

Trying to load SkyDemon InFlight to a 5 inch GPS

Hi all

I have brought a 5 inch windows based GPS and am trying to run SkyDemon Inflight on it. I have loaded the SkyDemon Inflight software to the SD card in the GPS via the USB but I get a message on the GPS saying "Please Set Navigation Path". I have set the Navigation Path in the GPS to "\SDMMC\SkyDemon\SkyDemon.exe". I have played around with other settings.

I cannot run ActiveSync as I am only able read the information on the SD card and not alter the settings on the GPS to read anything else.

Anyone else managed to run SkyDemon on a Chinese GPS. If so how did you do it?

Evaluation version, trying to rotate map not working

Hi All, ive just bought a generic 5 inch GPS and today went to test this software (I do have to say im very impressed) dead easy to install onto device.

Currently im instructing so wear ex RAF overalls and the GPS fits perfectly in the top let pouch and works wonderfully there so i have good situational awarness without my students being able to cheat with it, as i keep the map on my legs anyway.

Question is I noticed on some pitures the map can be orentated length ways rather than width ways, ive pressed the button under Tools, Options, "Rotate Display" and press "Apply Changes" but there is no change to orentation, is that only avialable in the Full version? or do you think its something silly im doing.

InFlight Mobile 1.2

Have just flown using 1.2, and it's great.

Just one problem Tim - from time to time InFlight quits unexpectedly (this has happened with all versions). Since this usually happens when I've selected 'Exit' it really isn't much of a problem, but I'd still prefer it if it didn't happen. I reinstalled everything after a hard reset (this is on a Loox N560 PDA) but that didn't seem to make a difference.

If I click the button that gives error details there's a lot of text which means nothing to me, and as far as I can see there's no way of copying that text so that I can do something more useful with it - like send it to you.

Can you help?

My Settings Won't Save!

I've bought (like some others I believe) a 7" GPS PDA unit (Generic Chinese GPS unit)

SkyDemon Inflight (Demo version) seems to run great, I can set it up and it remembers all of the settings (esp screen rotation, mapping options, larger font, GPS device COM no. etc). I can exit the program and go back in and it still remembers it's settings....

...UNTIL I switch it off. Then it forgets all the settings and the next time you want to use it you have to go back through setting the program up again!

Why??????

Is it not feasible to save the settings on the SD card so the program can bring up its defaults?

How can I sort this, is there a hack or am I missing something here? (yes I am exitting Inflight properly and not removing the SD card even when powered down properly)

I am hesitant to buy Inflight (I have Plan - its great) until the setting issue is cured because this will be mostly used by my not so tech savvy partner who will not appreciate having to reset all her default settings every time she gets to the field and switches on the device! (I'm not sure she will be happy trying to set the right COM port for the GPS either!)

Please help! (is there any file on the device I can edit to sort this?)

Problems with launching InFlight Windows Mobile v0.9.9

After installing v0.9.9, Plan works fine but I get an error when trying to run InFlight; at startup:

DETAILS: "SkyAngel.exe TypeLoadException"[/quote]

All was well with v0.9.8.

I have tried uninstalling and re-installing using both the CAB and manual copying of renamed files, also uninstalled and re-installed CF3.5.

Any ideas?

Guys,

After having installed the new version of inflight on my windows mobile device, which took a lot more effort then before, just copying a .cab file over to the device was easier, now I have to use the SD Card option as I don't use activesync. I have installed the new version of the inflight, it runs very well, but doesn't install itself in the start menu, so I have had to do that manually, again I didn't need to do that before.

My main issues is that no matter what I try the software says it is an evaluation version, I have copied the license file over to the device, un-installed and then re-installed etc. (also downloaded a new license file, for plan and inflight, plan is working fine).

Can you help me with this please ?

Also, is it possible to have the single .cab file download option available again for copying and pasting to the windows mobile devices ?
