About SkyDemon
SkyDemon are an independent, successful software company committed to bringing the highest-quality software to the aviation market, coupled with the
highest-quality aeronautical data.
Innovation
Innovation is at the heart of everything we do at SkyDemon. In 2009 we entered into the flight-planning and aviation GPS moving map industries; two industries
that had until that point stagnated and received little attention. Our products are entirely driven by the good ideas of both ourselves and our customers. Here
are some of the features that we have been the first to bring to market:
-
SkyDemon Vector Maps
Ours was the first combined planning and moving-map product to introduce vector maps with dynamic decluttering. What this means, in simple terms, is
one of the clearest avation maps in the world. Our charts adapt themselves to you; your planning and your flying.
-
Virtual Radar
Our GPS moving map devices show a real-time projection of your trajectory ahead, depicting how your path relates to terrain, airspace, obstructions and
other landmarks. This ensures you always know what is approaching well before you get there, and is one of the most significant increases we make to your
situational awareness.
-
Airspace Warnings with Advisory
When in flight and you are flying towards airspace that is controlled or potentially dangerous, warnings are shown onscreen to help you stay safe. These
include a callsign and frequency for somebody to talk to about the airspace. Since September 2009 pilots have been using this feature and airspace
infringements in the UK have dropped.
-
Two-Click Flightplan Filing
In early 2011 we partnered with Eurofpl to bring two-click filing of VFR flightplans into SkyDemon Plan. To our knowledge, nobody had ever done this before;
the idea is that once someone has planned their route, all it should take is a couple of clicks to send a flightplan representing that route to everybody
concerned with the flight. The feature is proving incredibly popular.

More in the Box
We provide weather forecasts, TAF, METAR, NOTAM, 13 chart updates per year and significant software upgrades as standard to all our subscribers. We
don't charge people when they want additional charts; as a customer you always have access to as many of our charts as you want, should you decide to
fly further afield. Flying is expensive these days and we're committed to keeping the cost of being well-briefed and safe as low as we can.
Stability
SkyDemon is an independent British company and we're owned entirely by our developers, all of whom are passionate about what they do. We've always been
profitable and have never borrowed a penny from anybody. We consider it a real privilege to have thousands of people trusting our products every day, and it's great
fun to be able to so dramatically improve the software (and safety) in aviation.
Our biggest asset is the technology we have developed that powers the SkyDemon product line. This technology is very robust and written in such a way that
we are able to easily port it to devices and even to the web, in our new rich internet-based products. The speed and quality of our development is unsurpassed.
Company History
SkyDemon is a trading name of Divelements Limited. In 2006 Tim Dawson, managing director and chief software architect at Divelements, earned his private pilot's
license. Shortly afterwards he began work on a tool to help him plan VFR flights, bringing together the various disparate pieces of information needed for such pilots to
make decisions before flight. The tool continued to be developed as a hobby. In 2009 the technology used in the tool was ported to Windows CE and GPS functionality
added, and at this point the decision was made to take the project commercial.
In 2010 the sales of our flight-planning software did extremely well, and SkyDemon became the de-facto standard for flight-planning in the UK. From this we were
able to develop the first in our own range of handheld aviation GPS units, and these went on sale in September 2010. While many of our competitors still produce devices
that do little more than move scanned paper charts around an aircraft symbol, out devices give pilots an unparalleled level of situational awareness and safety.
