About Us
SkyDemon is a venture by Divelements, a successful software company that previously had nothing to do with aviation.
You can read more about Divelements on the company website.
In 2006 Tim Dawson, managing director and chief software architect at Divelements, earned his private pilot's license. Shortly afterwards he began work on a tool
to help him plan VFR flights, bringing together the various disparate pieces of information needed for such pilots to make decisions before flight. The tool continued to be
developed as a hobby. In 2009 the technology used in the tool was ported to Windows Mobile and GPS functionality added, so that it could be used in-flight by anybody
with a mobile phone or CE device.
Everybody who saw or used the software was impressed and indicated that it offered the same or better functionality than the existing commercial packages, while
being easier to use and faster. At this point the decision was made to take the project commercial under the Divelements company name. On 3 September 2009 a public beta was released and thousands of
pilots around the world downloaded and used the software during this beta, giving their feedback and suggestions. A new version was released every week incorporating
the resulting changes and the product went on general release on 3 December 2009, exactly three months later.
What's Next?
As the sales come in we are already planning features for the next version of SkyDemon. Every customer receives free software upgrades for a year after their
purchase so we look forward to providing the many features that are consistently asked for, and making improvements to what we already have.
All customers are entitled to AIRAC data updates for the countries they're interested in every 28 days, which are made available through this website.
